Outreach Ministry

The Outreach Ministry supports the efforts of the Presbyterian Church (USA) at every organizational level; however, we seek to be especially active in supporting the needs of the greater Green Bay area. We keep the congregation informed via Moments for Mission, bulletin inserts and articles in the monthly newsletter.

Sadly, in the face of what was much good work done by the Outreach Ministry, the year 2002 will ultimately be remembered for what was lost as much as for what was accomplished. The passing of Steve Hall, a long-time member and former chair of this ministry, dominated much of our fall that year.

In Steve's honor, we worked to explore the establishment of a long-term relationship with Green Bay's Freedom House, with a particular eye toward caring for the many homeless children that, unfortunately, require their assistance. We are finalizing details for "Steve's Closet," a perpetual toy chest at the Freedom House, with the hope that each child resident would be able to take one new or gently used toy with them when they and their family are ready to move into more permanent housing.

In addition to memorialing Steve, it is our hope that we can continue exploring ways to work with Freedom House and other organizations for the homeless in the greater Green Bay area.

Finally, we note with pride the graduation of Ashish Singh, whose education was substantially subsidized by FUPC over the years. We also had the privilege of hosting missionary Jon Baumann for Simple Supper, and worked collaboratively with the Fellowship Ministry to purchase, use (during Coffee Fellowship) and resell (at cost) fairly traded coffee and cocoa products from Equal Exchange Coffee Cooperative. We supported the "Hay for Dusty" program at the Ganado Indian Reservation in Arizona, began to explore becoming a "Bread for the World" congregation, supported Habitat for Humanity's "House that De Pere Built II" and continued supporting a variety of local, national and international needs:

Then end of the year saw us beginning an important conversation about our mission, and about the ways in which we might maximize the good work we feel we are called to do.

The members of this committee give lovingly of their time and talents to the projects listed above. With God as our focus, we hope that we can continue to serve our church, community and our world.
