Outreach Ministry
The Outreach Ministry of the First United Presbyterian Church responds to Jesus’ love for people by realizing that God is at work in the community. The committee is always aware of this fact and seeks to guide the congregation into avenues of service. With this in mind, we work together with other churches to show God’s love, to spread the word of the God, and to help others in His name.
EPH- Ecumenical Partnership for Housing is an ecumenical service over seen by the Salvation Army. Eleven churches have joined together and formed a consortium that has purchased houses in the area and makes them available to families on a temporary basis (usually about 6 months) to help them get back on their feet. Extra help is given to the families in the areas of further education and money management. You can help prepare a meal for the families or help clean when families move. Contact Paul Weiss for more ways you can help at epaulweiss@gmail.com.
Green Bay Community Shelter (also known as Room at the Inn) - Having partnered with other churches since 1985 to help make sure that all will get a warm meal each evening, we continue to cook at the church the 3rd Tuesday of each month and to serve the meal that day. Come and join us on that Tuesday morning as we cook or plan to serve at 4:30 that evening. All are welcome to help cook and to serve. Contact Cindi Barnett for more information.
St John’s the Evangelist Shelter - Some of our members are regular workers at this seasonal shelter, working with the patrons who sleep in the converted school and helping with food and donations. Plan to join us when the shelter reopens in November.
De Pere Christian Outreach Store - While people from all over the area shop at this resale store, its profits serve the De Pere community by paying for people's heating costs, rent, or utility bills when needed. Money is also raised for larger projects such as the Habitat Houses. De Pere Christian Outreach Store is also the support group for the De Pere Pantry which operates out of St. Anne’s Church. Contact Jean Schneider at 336- 5621 if you wish to help in any way.
We try to stay constantly aware of the needs of our local community as well as worldwide, and help coordinate community service through our church in the name of Jesus. It is through the Outreach Ministry that the First United Presbyterian Church gives to the four Presbyterian Special Offerings each year. We also make sure our congregation is aware of how to help in the event of any worldwide natural disasters. Contributions are made to people in need through the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
By volunteering and helping with any of these projects, you will discover the greatest gift may not be the lives you touch but the ministry you receive. Join us at any monthly meeting, held on the first Monday of each month at 6:00pm in room 11. Email Diane Betz for more information.
