Position Title Director for Youth and Family Ministry
Job Description
Purpose:
To bring the good news of the Gospel to middle high (grades 7 and 8), senior high (grades 9 through 12) and young adult members of the church with responsibility for the fellowship and Christian Education programs of our youth under the direction of the Pastor and Session.
Accountability:
Accountable to the Session through the Pastor as head of staff, the Christian Education Ministry, and the Administration and Leadership Ministry.
Responsibilities:
Senior and Middle High Fellowship and Education:
a) Lead the recruitment, training, and support of fellowship and Christian Education leaders.
b) Develop personal relationships with youth.
c) Attand and lead youth fellowship meetings and activities.
d) Coordinate and participate in special events (mission trips, fund raisers, youth-led services, etc.).
e) Establish goals for the youth fellowship program with input from youth and adult volunteers
f) Attend Sunday church service on a regular basis when not otherwise involved with youth programs or education.
g) Research and recommend to the Christian Education Ministry the curriculum for the youth programs with input from adult volunteers and final approval by Session.
h) In addition to the summer mission trip provide a minimum of one summer activity each for Middle High and Senior High.
Confirmation Class:
a) Teach and evaluate the curriculum for confirmation
b) Develop personal relationship with members of the confirmation class.
c) Recruit volunteers as needed to support confirmation activities (i.e., mentors and service hours).
Young Adult and Family Ministry:
a) Evaluate the needs of those members of the congregation who classify themselves as young adults or young families.
b) Recruit volunteers to deveop a self-sustaining ministry among this group.
c) Schedule four events a year for the Young Adult and Family Ministry (i.e., Christmas homecoming; end of year homecoming for college students).
Other Responsibilities:
a) Perform other duties/responsibilities as directed by the Pastor/head of staff.
b) Maintain scheduled office hours.
c) Attend monthly Session meetings as ex-officio member.
d) Act as a resource person and ex-officio member of the Christian Education Ministry.
e) Adhere to church policies and procedures.|
f) Possess and demonstrate organizational skills.
g) Knowledge of and adherence to Reformed Theology.
h) To provide congregational support on pastor's days off, vacation and study leave.
Recommended Minimum Requirements
Associate or Bachelor Degree and/or youth programming experience
Presbyterian affiliation is preferred
